Woodvale School - State Liscensed Child Care & Preschool

Woodvale’s Beginning
http://www.woodvaleschool.org/home

Woodvale School was created through the hard work of the following founding families: Elmendorf, Overton, Philp, Stevens, Weese, and Workman.
With Mrs. Marie Dellinger as the first teacher the school opened it's doors in August of 1983 to twelve students in grades 1 and 2.
A few years later Mrs. Eleanor Roberts assumed the position
of principal/teacher and taught up to
the present. In 2001 the preschool arm of Woodvale opened with Sue Jones
as teacher.
Parents and volunteers built a one room school house for the first Woodvale classes.
Most of the library and school materials were donated.
Woodvale School now resides at 103 N Pearl Street in Big Sandy, TX.

Woodvale Today

Parents and volunteers are still the key to the success of Woodvale School.
Volunteers support the school through various fund-raising projects, maintenance, and various other ways of assistance.

Woodvale School is a labor of love dedicated to teaching children. The curriculum concentrates on the basics including reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Students are taught to read using the phonics method.
Revenue is provided by student tuition, donations, grants, and fund raisers.

Woodvale Success

Woodvale sets high standards in education. Students are allowed to excel at their own pace as well as get extra attention when needed. Woodvale’s goals for the students are to be grounded in the basics, learn how to study, become independent in reading and following instructions, and work toward being successful adults.

The success of the teaching at Woodvale is evident by how well students have achieved in the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (a National test).

In the 1999-2000 school year there were three Grade 2 students who had been enrolled at Woodvale since Kindergarten.

In Language their scores ranged from the 77 to the 94 percentages, and in Math their scores ranged from 71 to 95 percent. The two Grade 3 students enrolled since kindergarten scored 67 and 91 percentiles in Language, and 98 and 99 percentiles
in Math.
